frankenstein movie/book comparison

The book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a classic, adored by many was adapted to a movie. The book is a great book it has a great story and tells you the story of Frankenstein and the monster in a beautiful way. The movie was also a great adaption from the Frankenstein book, however in my opinion the book is better in comparison to the movie, of course the book being the original. The movie has its flaws, in fact many- compared to the book that is. The move could not cover all the detail of the book making the move feel rushed, also the crucial points of the book being altered in the movie making it almost completely different. Going from the book to the movie i had many expectations that were not meet, being that it was not what i was expecting.A lot of scenes and events were very different. Such as, there was no  young girl drowning in the river and the man shooting the monster. Which is important because it drove the monster to kill Frankenstein’s son. Another part they did not include was the death of victors father, in fact he never died on the movie, this was crucial as it added to victors story of agony and pain. The book and the movie of course can have its moments in similarity. They both entail William being murdered  by the monster. They both show about the  tragic death of Frankenstein and their last moments together while captain walton sails away leaving victor and the monster behind to die in sadness. But to my standards, the book is better. The book expresses more passion and knowledge for the reader. The movie doesn’t give you all the information as much as the book does. In general,Books in comparison to movies always prove to be better. In the movies, you don’t always get that satisfaction of story development, as there is always something missing . Books on the other hand, have virtually no limit to how long the story can be, the author can really explain things to the reader in the most profound ways, its what makes books better then the movies, unless film makers make a great adaption, then in those cases the movie can be even better then the book sometimes . In context the book showed to be “the suggested route for those who want to get into Frankenstein” as to that is what i would suggest. But don’t get me wrong just because the movie has these flaws and alterations doesn’t really make it bad, its just another approach at the story of Frankenstein and that isn’t always bad, some people prefer that sometimes, always looking for something new, original.

Why Valentines Day Shouldn’t Be a Thing.

Why Valentines day shouldn’t be a thing, or should it? For many years we have celebrated this day but why do we keep celebrating-where did this day even come from. The history of valentines day  is unclear and clouded by several fanciful legends. The roots of Valentines day are in the ancient roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration honored annually on February 15th. Pope Gelasius I declared this festival a christian feast day, making February 14th St.Valentines day.

So why shouldn’t Valentines day be celebrated, after all its been around for centuries. Many will tell you its just another holiday to support commercialism – that the companies simply want your money, its emblematic and valentines day is just another “genius” way to do it. Many will also tell you its pointless and that its uncomfortable to those who are single, it may even lead to compunction.”Love isn’t something that is based on time. You can always show or never show love. It should not be based on a day where people are asked to buy things and do things to “prove their love”. Just because a man does not buy his wife flowers on February 14th, does not mean that this woman whom he has been married to for forty years, he suddenly does not love.” (debate.org)  Valentines day, in some peoples eyes is insensitive. Those who “found Love” to celebrate valentines day with are inconsiderate of those who are single getting laughed at because they don’t have a companion whom they can spend the day with.”To people who think it’s good, there are very good people out there that are single. I t really hurts you selfish pigs who think it’s a good idea. I mean come on people. This hurts some people emotionally. It is a scare too. You people are just plain selfish because there are people out there who need love. But insist on being unkind”.(debate.org)

However there is the other side of this debate. Valentines should be celebrated, you get to spend the day with the one you love, you also get to accept corny gifts you have to pretend you like. Seriously though, Valentines day to other people is a day to make their move on that special someone they’ve been dying to talk to, it helps improve social skills, some even say it supports friendships.”It’s an American tradition to celebrate holidays in school. Valentine’s Day is celebrated to promote friendship and kindness. It’s a way for teachers to help their students learn social skills. It can give kids the opportunity to talk with their peers that they wouldn’t ordinarily talk to. It’s a way for them to make friends and learn the ways to do it. They hand out valentines to every student in the class if they choose to do so, and this can help the students not feel left out. When they leave a personal note for one of their peers, it can help that person feel better about themselves and see that relationships with others can be great. Believe it or not, most students are more excited about receiving the cards than they are about the candy. Since they can get candy any day of the year, the cards are something special in their eyes and it’s something to be cherished”. (debate.org) some people simply say “why not, there is no harm celebrating it”.”Nobody is asking you to celebrate it, but what’s so wrong about a day to celebrate and show your appreciation for your significant other? Just because you may not have one to celebrate with, doesn’t mean that Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be a thing. Don’t be bitter, Valentine’s day is NOT just about romantic love and if you’re really so upset that you don’t have a date, find others like yourself and have a group date and maybe next year you’ll have an s/o to celebrate with”. (debate.org)

all in all, there will be those who are vehement of valentines day and accept it with alacrity and those who demise it, however at the end of the day its all up to you! Don’t let valentines day perturb you, don’t let one day ruin your life. If you truly love someone your love shouldn’t amount to only one day of the year.

Frankenstein thematic blog

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley starts off with Captain Walton or Robert Walton writing letters to his sister back in England telling her about his dangerous mission. Soon enough Captain Walton is interrupted by the wild sea and thick snow and ice, while his men try to stay alive. After their intense battle with their situation, it got the better of them. Now trapped, Captain Walton and his men encounter a man, Victor Frankenstein. This man Victor Frankenstein had been traveling by dog sled through the barely visible snow. Walton noticing this man weakened, brings Victor aboard ship and nurses him back to health, then Captain Walton begins to listen to Victors tale, Learning of Victors obsession for the pursuit of knowledge and scientific discovery, that led to a truly horrid abomination- or was it? Thus the story begins.

Later on in the story, Victor attends a university. There he begins his interest in science, and eventually ancient alchemy. Victor one day in class brought up the topic of ancient alchemy in front off all his peers, only to be laughed at and called a mad man, this didn’t stop victor. Victor studied vigorously, ignoring his social life and family. Intrigued by the mystery of the creation of life, he begins to study anatomy and how the human body decays. After many years of intense study, Victor finally masters what he had been learning, only to discover more than what he had intended. With the knowledge he had acquired, he began an experiment, he began the construction of animate creature thinking of the possibilities of finally being able to live forever with your loved ones, almost like a new race. Once more, Victor decides to devote his time to this new experiment not leaving enough time to worry about is family and friends. Victor growing more and more obsessed, begins to get pale and lonely. (ch.4)

One night, after several  months of labor, Victor finally completes his experiment. Without thought victor brings his creature to life, only thinking of how all his work finally paying off, but when he brings it to life its ugly appearance horrifies him. Victor rushes out the room to go get some rest, however victor found himself having trouble sleeping, constantly thinking of Elizabeth and his Mother. The following morning as victor opens his eyes, he awakes to the monster leaning over his bed. Victor horrified by the monster, runs out his house into town avoiding the monster that lurked in his home. Walking around eventually entering an Inn, Victor runs into a friend, Henry Clerval. Victor relieved to run into Henry, sighs in relief remembering about his family. Without hesitation, victor brings Henry to his home to show him the monster. When they arrive the home appears vacant of the monster, victor relieved that the monster was nowhere in sight suddenly fell ill of all his months of experimenting and thinking of what kind of creation he had brought to life. Henry nurses victor back to health after several months. after victors recovery, Henry gave victor a letter from Elizabeth that she had sent during his recovery.

In context, through out the story of Frankenstein, victor was subjected to a unhealthy obsession with knowledge and trying to master the secrets of life. His obsession led him astray, his obsession put him in the situation he ended up in, he was selfish. Victor put his priority on science and shunned his social life, family, and friends. Victor began to realize what his obsession had done for him, whenever he had a brake from his study he would always find himself thinking of his family. All in all victor is an example of what someones selfish ambitions can do trying to understand natural science, even going as far as to be ” god like”, in the sense of victor giving an animate monster life that he shunned and caused victor a horrible life. This book has an overall negative perspective on victors path for knowledge.
